looks like I'm the first and only one in the forum ???

How to construct 3 dim Arrays from DICOM data ?

I intend to do quantitative calculations on data generated
by MRI, PET and CT scanners.
The calculations on the 3 dimensional data sets are easy, but
first I have to construct the correct 3 dim Arrays.
Just getting an image is not enough...

The geometry, scaling, gaps etc. of the voxels come in as
Dicom-Tags.
It would be very helpfull if sombody has an example for
generating Volume-Data from Dicom-Files.

Any hint is welcome...

p.s.: In case anybody from VNI reads this: Please provide more
example programs for the more special features of PV-wave.
This will increase productivity of your customers and this in
turn would be the best possible reference for your products !

All in all I think that the DICOM support in PV-WAVE is terrible. Multi image files are poorly supported. 16 bit greyscale files aren't supported. JPEG compressed DICOM files aren't supported. Getting the DICOM information in the tags is a pain.

I raised a support call with VNI and was told that improving the DICOM support was not a priority.

Anyone else like to see some improvements here?

You can use the PV-Wave routine DICM_TAG_INFO to extract the dicom tag information.

YES.

It would be nice to use the visualisation capabillities
of pv-wave to publish medical results based on fMRI
studies, i.e. '4-dim data sets'.
SPM does the calculations, but visualisation is poor.

Please contribute to this thread..

Many members of Visual Numerics Technical and Sales staff are regularly watching this forum so please continue with your comments for product changes and enhancements.

The need for good examples to accompany our product is understood, please let us know the areas in which you see us lacking (we will take note of the need for better DICOM documentation).

In regards to your question regarding DICOM we believe the answer is with the DICM_TAG_INFO routine. If this is not what you are needing, please contact your local Visual Numerics' Technical Support office for assistance with this issue.

It seems that Medical Imaging is not a focus for VNI. The main players in the market GE et al offer support for DICOM using either in-house expertise or through licensing 3rd party technologies.
