View Full Version : copy and paste using keyboard shortcuts (ctrl +c/ctrl+v)

Hi, I'm using host access 7.4 and connecting to an IBM mainframe using the IBM 3270 emulator. Is there a way of enabling keyboard shortcuts (ctrl + c) and (ctrl + v) to become copy and paste respectively. I'm guessing it can be done in the keyboard mapping, however there is no option in the "Emulation Key" field to select either copy or paste.

Generally speaking, it can be done, however, there might be a limitation in the 3270 emulation which prevents it. If you have current support, you can submit the question to support@roguewave.com for further help.

There's a simple workaround using the mouse:

Hold down the control key and drag your mouse over the area you wish to copy. When done, right-click (while still holding down the control key) to save the area to the clipboard. To paste it back in, right-click anywhere in Hostaccess then select the Paste option. It'll paste whatever text is on the clipboard at the current Hostaccess screen cursor location.

Is it really short code for CTRL + C

Is it really short code for CTRL + C
Yes it is. Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V don't work because these are actually ASCII control characters in the terminal world. Once you are in the terminal emulator you are no longer working with windows shortcut keys, it's all terminal control codes. Hence Ctrl-C etc don't work. See my post above for how to cut/copy & paste. You can use the same method to copy what's on the screen onto the clipboard for use in a windows app like Word or Excel, or perhaps another text editor like Notepad++.
