Hi,

I installed the new version of Fedora (FC6) and reinstalled PV-Wave v8.01. I'm running into some problems when trying to run the license manager and probably wave proper, but I haven't got there yet.

When I try to start the license manager I get:
----
$ VNI_LICENSE_MGR

The symbolic link /opt/vni//license/bin/VNI was created successfully.

/opt/vni//license/bin/bin.linux/lmgrd: relocation error: /opt/vni//license/bin/bin.linux/lmgrd: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
----
I have installed:
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61
compat-gcc-34-c++-3.4.6-4
compat-libgcc-296-2.96-138
compat-gcc-34-3.4.6-4
compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138

and "strings /lib/libc.so.6 | grep GLIB" outputs:
GLIBC_2.0
GLIBC_2.1
GLIBC_2.1.1
GLIBC_2.1.2
GLIBC_2.1.3
GLIBC_2.2
GLIBC_2.2.1
GLIBC_2.2.2
GLIBC_2.2.3
GLIBC_2.2.4
GLIBC_2.2.6
GLIBC_2.3
GLIBC_2.3.2
GLIBC_2.3.3
GLIBC_2.3.4
GLIBC_2.4
GLIBC_2.5
GLIBC_PRIVATE

Futhermore, if I run "ldd lmgrd" I get:
linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00423000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x45c6b000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x4529c000)

So, it is not missing a library, but it does not like my glibc (glibc-2.5-3).

Is there an easy way to get Wave 8.01 running in FC6? I remember that back with RedHat9 there was a similar problem and Visual Numerics recompiled the two executables lmgrd and VNI. Would Visual Numerics would do that again?
Has somebody tried to run the new version of Wave (8.51) in Fedora Core 6? Are the same problems there?

Thanks,
egcp

Hi egcp,
I've successfully installed PV-WAVE on FC6, although it sounds like our configurations may be a bit different as mine seemed to work pretty much right out of the box.

Try setting the environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 or 2.2.5 before launching lmgrd to tell the system to use the older POSIX thread standards.

In C shell:

setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1

or:

setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.2.5

If you are using bash shell, you can enter:

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1

or:

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

I believe this will work for you. (Although it would have been my impression that the compat-packages you had installed would have worked as well...) If it doesn't please contact tech support at (303) 379-3033.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Which version of PV-Wave did you install successfully in FC6 (8.0 or 8.5)? I'm having problems with v.8.0.

I tried setting the environmental variable as you suggested (I tried both).
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

But in both cases I got the same error:
/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi,
I've installed PV-WAVE 8.5 on FC6, however I've heard of other users report similar errors with this version. There really shouldn't be any difference between 8 and 8.5 from an install perspective.

As far as libdl.so.2, try installing an RPM to provide this shared object. (Either a glibc rpm or compat-glibc package should do it.) If this fails please contact technical support.
